Textbooks for CRW 2000
If you live close to Jacksonville, you may not relish driving to campus to purchase your textbooks. If you want to save gas and $$, you may want to purchase your textbook using http://www.efollett.com. That site will direct you to each campus bookstore, if you want to pick them up in person. They will also mail the book(s) to you. If you strike out at Follett's site, try http://www.amazon.com.
On the other hand, you may be taking the course from, say, Tennessee. If so, definitely forget the gas and go straight to a website.
If the bookstore, efollett.com, and amazon.com are out of books, you may be able to find many poems or stories online. For example, works by Emily Dickinson, Nathaniel Hawthorne, and Shakespeare (for starters) will be frequently reproduced at other websites. You may have similar luck with other selections in the textbooks.
The instructor will be using two primary textbooks:
Jason, Philip K., and Allan B. Lefcowitz. The Creative Writers' Handbook. Pearson/Prentice-Hall, 1998. ISBN: 0137879121
(Any edition of this book will suffice.)
Fracis, Sohrab Homi. Ticket to Minto. Iowa City: U of Iowa P, 2001. ISBN 0877457794
You will find hundreds of useful books for the aspiring (or established) writer. Feel free to track some of the books below down in an old bookstore or on a used-book website.
If you are especially interested in, say, memoirs, then one of the memoir books below may be ideal for you, whereas someone focusing on plays and scripts may ignore that book but purchase the books by Trotter and Sweet. The books by Warren and Erskine are relatively inexpensive paperbacks and could be of use to everyone. Gardner's book ranks up there with similar works by Henry James and E. M. Forster.
