Dear Students,
Welcome to MAT 0024 Online for 16 weeks!
We will be studying Elementary Algebra using a software program called Interactivemath2 by Prentice-Hall, abbreviated PHIM2. I think that you will find the software and the matching resources to be a wonderful source of information for you.
Taking an online course requires an independent learner who can manage his/her time. You will be studying at your own pace with very little supervision from me, your instructor. You will have a schedule to follow. You must finish the first half of the course before the midterm exam, and the entire course must be finished before the final exam. However, within these two halves of the course, you will set your own pace. You will take the quizzes (called section assessments) and the tests at the end of each chapter. It is essential that you are self-motivated and dedicated to adhering to the schedule so you can successfully complete the course.
As in all classes, we will all work together to assist one another. This will be accomplished through the discussion forums. You are required to post to the discussion forums four times a week. I will let the class respond to questions on the discussion board first before I will post an entry.
One note: if you experience any tech problems (either at the time of installation or while using the software), please contact tech support at Interactivemath (see your orientation for contact information). It is important to both telephone and email.
Please also be aware that this course will require more time than a face-to-face class requires. This course covers that same material as the face-to-face course. The online tests are timed, and there are two required proctored on-site exams.
I am always available to you throughout the course. You may either email, call, or stop by during my office hours (see the syllabus). Please keep in contact with me!
