Communications: Outside class, the best way to contact your instructor is through FCCJ email. The instructor maintains office hours and times may be scheduled for meeting if the student desires.

Each person is expected to participate in classroom discussions. You are also encouraged to communicate with the instructor and other members of the class using discussions boards, Blackboard email, and chat rooms. Students are expected to keep a record of their own progress. Please save all submitted application software assignments and keep a copy of your grades in case the instructor makes a mistake (not that it ever happens!). Don't get behind in the course. Life is a series of small daily decisions. Make sure you allocate sufficient time for doing the homework, studying for tests, and working on software application projects. If you "get stuck" on something that doesn't seem to work, don't stay stuck. Seek help! Contact your instructor and discuss it with other members of the class.

Completion of all application assignments is a requirement for a passing grade in this course. You should still submit your assignments even if they are late! A 10% penalty per week will be accessed for late assignments. I hope that your experience in this course is a positive one and I intend to do everything possible to make this course as interesting and rewarding as possible.

Tests, Quizzes, and Examinations:

Review Tests: Each Major Unit (Word, Excel, & Accesss) has a review test located in the Examinations section. Review tests do not count toward your final grade in the class. Review tests should help you prepare for the Unit tests.

Unit Tests: Are timed, password protected, taken in class, and count toward your final grade in the class. A 10% penalty will be assigned to tests which exceed the allowed time by more than 1 minute.

Application Assignments: You will have tutorial and case problem assignments. After completing the assigned Unit tutorial you will also have to complete a case problem at the end of each unit in the Microsoft Office 2007 applications textbook. The completed files will be submitted electronically and you will receive your grades for them in the class Blackboard grade book. Printed homework materials will not be accepted in this class. It is extremely important that you develop a proficiency in using these common applications because they are used to complete course work at the college and they are used extensively by employers in the community. The assignments will have due dates and must be turned in on time or you will be assessed a 10% late penalty.

Class Participation: Students who participate in classroom discussions experience a higher level of learning and retention of the information contained in the course. To encourage your active participation in the course, you will receive credit for your attendance, participation in class discussions, and your work on the chapter tutorials.

Disabilities Policy: In compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), all qualified students enrolled in this course are entitled to reasonable accommodations. Please notify the instructor during the first week of class of any accommodations needed for the course.
