Welcome to the legacy Meridain Voicemail Help Page. Here you will find instructions on how to perform most functions on the legacy Meridain Voicemail system. You have a legacy Meridian phone if your phone is one of the older, tan/brown looking phones that says "Meridian" on it. If you have a phone that says "Cisco", you have a newer Cisco IP Phone. If you are a Cisco IP Phone user, please refer to the instructions we have for Cisco IP Phones & Unity Voicemail on our Learner Support Center page.

To help you quickly learn system commands, Meridian Mail provides extensive prompting. Immediate prompts provide feedback in a short but professional manner. For example, the system verbally requests "password" when users are logging on. If no input is forthcoming, the system provides a delayed prompt that acts as a hint for new or inexperienced users. For logon, the delayed prompt is, "Please enter your password, followed by # For more information, press *."

Immediate and delayed prompts provide an implicit tutorial in the use of the system. The delay period is such that new users think about the situation before hearing the "answer" provided by the delayed prompt, thus reinforcing the learning process. As familiarity increases, users typically stop waiting for the delayed prompt and start responding to the immediate prompt. As confidence increases further, users start to preempt the prompts by interrupting them with commands, or even by "typing" ahead.
The tutorials provided by delayed prompts guide the user through all basic activities needed to own and operate a mailbox. Implicit tutorials also allow a user to be experienced in some parts of the Meridian Mail but a novice elsewhere. No special action is needed; users just wait a moment for the instructions. User guides, user cards, and telephone templates are no longer available.
